Meet Rueben: Why International Management and French is My Path to Success

Following on from our recent review of language learning in the UK, we caught up with Rueben and discussed the drivers around his decision to pursue Languages as part of his ongoing education.

In today’s globalized economy, businesses seek professionals who can connect across borders, work with international clients, and navigate complex markets. Rueben, an ambitious student planning to study International Management and French, sees his language journey as more than a set of vocabulary and grammar rules—he sees it as a path to cultural understanding, professional growth, and career possibilities that span the globe.

Learning French is more than just a skill for Rueben; it’s an opportunity to immerse himself in another culture. “I’m excited about spending a year abroad, experiencing French culture and everyday life firsthand,” he shares. This immersion is a unique part of pursuing French at the university level. While basic language knowledge might help someone get by in a foreign country, Rueben’s goal is proficiency—the kind that comes only from engaging directly with native speakers in real-world settings.

Rueben’s A-level studies in Economics have also fuelled his passion for global business. Economics has introduced him to the fundamentals of how markets operate and the importance of critical thinking. His chosen course in International Management combines economics with aspects of marketing and business management, equipping him with practical skills that can be applied to solve real-world problems. By mastering the intricacies of international business and finance, Rueben aims to position himself as a versatile candidate ready to contribute to multinational corporations.

For Rueben, language is the bridge to building meaningful connections, while business knowledge provides the framework to turn those connections into impactful collaborations. “This blend of International Management and French will allow me to communicate confidently in a variety of social and professional settings,” Rueben explains. Although he isn’t yet certain of his future career path, he knows this unique combination of studies will prepare him well for the challenges of the professional world.

Rueben’s story is a powerful example of how a dual focus on language and international business can create a foundation for a dynamic, borderless career.
